Trip Itinerary
A representative of Enlightenment Treks will come to pick you up at the airport. After some rest, we will offer a trip briefing about your 7 day Jomsom Muktinath Trek and answer each of your questions at our office. We will also give you quick do’s and don’ts during the trip.
After the trip briefing prepare yourself and your equipment for your trek tomorrow.
We start our first day of the trek with a scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. It is a brief 25-minute journey, and you can witness Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks during the flight.
After landing and taking care of our logistics we will start our trek to Kagbeni, a beautiful village situated at 2,804 m altitude. Kagbeni is mostly known as the gateway to “the restricted area”, Upper Mustang.
We follow the riverbed and wander around the desert of Mustang. After 3 - 4 hours of trekking, we reach Kagbeni. Kagbeni is a traditional village with small streets and houses made of mud and bricks. You'll see colorful flags hanging around, and there are ancient monasteries to visit.
The trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath is about 12.4 kilometers via Khingar and Jharkot villages, which takes around 5 to 6 hours. This section of the trip offers trekkers stunning Himalayan views, cultural richness, and pleasant weather.
Situated at an altitude of 3800 m, Muktinath is a revered site for both Buddhists and Hindus and is known for its holy features like eternal flame fire and 108 water taps. Trekkers can explore Muktinath, and ancient monasteries and chortens along the Kali Gandaki valley, enriching the journey with even more spiritual significance.
After breakfast at the teahouse, we start our trek back to Jomsom via an easy downhill route, via Jarkot village. This route is shorter compared to the Kagbeni one. We will also enjoy the splendid views of Mt. Dhaulagiri along the way.
As we pass through Jarkot, we will visit another monastery and appreciate the vistas of snow-capped mountains and ancient caves, showcasing the rich Tibetan culture. After trekking for 5 - 6 hours, covering a distance of 15 km we reach Jomsom.
We ride from Jomsom to Tatopani by bus or Jeep. The road goes through the deep Kaligandaki gorge, making the journey interesting. It's about 50 km from Jomsom to Tatopani and takes 2 hours. Tatopani sits at 1,200 m.
Relax in the warm water of Tatopani to refresh your body. After washing up, we walk to Sikha village, which is on the way to Ghorepani. This short walk to Shikha village helps cover some distance for Ghorepani tomorrow. The walk from Tatopani to Sikha Village is about 4 - 5 hours. We spend the night at Sikha Village, at 1,914 m altitude.
After breakfast in Sikha village, we pass through scenic villages like Ghara and Phalate. The path to Ghorepani goes uphill, with stone paths winding through forests and showing diverse flora. Ghorepani can be busy because it's popular and connects to other treks. We get ready for our trek to Poon Hill while staying the night in Ghorepani at 2,874 m altitude.
We wake up early and head to Poonhill to see the sunrise. It's about a 45-minute uphill climb from Ghorepani, reaching 3,210 meters high. At Poonhill, we see golden rays lighting up the snowy peaks, an amazing sight.
After enjoying Poonhill's beauty, we go back down to Ghorepani and prepare for the final part of our journey to Pokhara.
We walk to Hile, a lovely trek through rhododendron woods and charming villages like Banthanti and Ulleri. The walk takes 5 to 6 hours, bringing us to Hile. From there, we drive back to Pokhara in our jeep. At the Nayapul checkpoint, our permits are checked before we leave. Alongside the Seti River, we arrive in Pokhara after 2 to 2:30 hours of driving.
Note: You can start the trek with a drive up to Jomsom and choose to fly after a visit to Muktinath. However, visiting Poonhill will not be possible during that itinerary.
